POSTAL 2: Share The Pain, Multiplayer Edition is the first official expansion for POSTAL 2.

Overview[]

Originally available as a download for original owners of POSTAL 2 on RWS' site, this expansion adds two new areas to the base game (the Obligatory Sewer Complex and Tora Bora), a new weapon (the Weapon of Mass Destruction), multiplayer, and a fully functional version of Unreal Editor 3.

Multiplayer[]

The meat of the expansion is the new multiplayer mode. Based heavily on Unreal Tournament, there are four game modes:

DeathMatch[]

Standard for multiplayer games. Can be set to most frags in a given time or set amount of frags to win.

Team DeathMatch[]

Like the above except between teams (Red vs Blue).

Snatch[]

Capture the flag except with sexy Postal Babes instead of flags.

Grab[]

Collect bags of money for increased power.

POSTed[]

Main Article: POSTAL2 Modding/POSTed

POSTed is a modified version of the Unreal Engine 2 SDK (more commonly known as UnrealEd). This allowed for custom maps, characters, and game modes to be created by the user. Expansive, whole new campaigns can be created and coded from scratch.

Free Multiplayer Version[]

As a way to advertise the then upcoming Postal film by Uwe Boll, the multiplayer component was released for free on ModDB as a standalone on May 20th, 2008.

1409X Multiplayer patch[]

On January 21st 2012, a patch was released by RWS in conjunction with Resurrection Studios for multiplayer adding additional game modes, popular fan mutators, more characters, and various bug fixes.

This patch isn't fully compatible with POSTAL 2 Complete nor is it included as RWS considers it a "server side patch".[1] Fortunately, all features can be downloaded from a 1409X server allowing Steam users all the benefits of the patch.

Trivia[]

  • "Share The Pain" refers to the online multiplayer aspect of the game.
  • In Apocalypse Weekend, BullFish Interactive is selling a knock-off version called "Smell The Pain". This is in reference to the breakdown with their publisher at the time, Whiptail Interactive.
  • The multiplayer has a bad habit of crashing on Windows 10 when turned to full screen due to DX8 not being fully supported by the OS. Setting "ReduceMouseLag" to false in the Postal2mp.ini file should fix this, though a recent update to the OS seems to have fixed DX8 compatibility.
    • Despite discontinuing support for STP in 2012, the Steam version was patched to function correctly with Windows 10 on March 26th 2016.
