Catch Her in the Rye is the title of a book the Postal Dude's wife had been supposedly reading, since, according to the Dude, the "bitch can't even read". One of his errands on Tuesday includes returning the book to the Library. The Postal Dude enters the building and can either wait in line to deliver it to the librarian, or simply toss it to a return box. After returning the book, the library is invaded by a group of Book protestors which attack the Postal Dude and everyone inside the building.
- The book is a play on words of a very controversial, yet critically acclaimed, real-life book, 1951's The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger (the game's parody is said to be written by a "B.J. Dillinger", a reference to the author himself). Mark David Chapman, murderer of John Lennon, was holding a copy of Catcher in the Rye while he was sitting down on the sidewalk waiting for the police to arrest him after shooting Lennon. On trial, Chapman even went on to compare himself to the book's protagonist, Holden Caulfield.
